When Muhammed was in Mecca and started Islam, and was getting messages from Allah thru the angel Gabriel which were writen down and started the Koran, the religion was somewhat tolerant of Infidels and their beliefs.
Muhammed aggravated a lot of Kafirs (Unbelievers) in Mecca, and after losing his family's protection from harm by the Infidel Meccans he moved his operation to Medina.
When he got to Medina (after about 10 years in Mecca) he had only about 150 Muslim followers.
Then Muhammed started a new approach to us Infidels .
No more nice tolerant guy, he instructed his followers in Medina to subjugate ,convert or kill anyone who does not believe there is only one God (Allah) and Muhammed is his prophet.
Those Koran chapters written in Medina are violent and supersede the earlier softer Koran chapters.
if there appear to be a conflict in the Koran you go by the later chapter on that subject. - Tom
