Talking to the Huffington Post, Andie Boyd came up with the idea to dress as a vagina on Halloween after watching Mean Girls. She said she heard this quote and knew what she had to do: "Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it."
Thus, Boyd told the Huffington Post, she wanted to be the "sluttiest" thing possible and the "most hush hush thing you could be while at the same time chipping away at double standards in our society:" a vagina.
According to Boyd and the Huffington Post, there is a distinct double standard in American society between men and women. She said that "female anatomy should be as present in society as the male anatomy," implying that people regularly dress up as a penis.
"Not everyone she knows was supportive of the idea, however," the article reads, as if it is weird that someone would be dismissive of someone who wanted to dress as a vagina in public, possibly in front of children. "Boyd says that when discussing the costume idea with a coworker, they actually responded by being grossed out...
"To Boyd, it was reactions like this that convinced her she needed to go ahead and follow through with the costume," the article continues.
In the end, after much trial and error, Boyd made her costume, which turned out to be an overwhelming success with her friends.
"My friends loved it and strangers seemed to enjoy it as well," Boyd said. "It also proved to be educational as my roommate as a gay male had never had much exposure to the female anatomy so I was able to teach him as I was crafting it."
According to the Huffington Post, Boyd "hopes that her costume will continue spark a conversation and break the barriers to discussing women's anatomy and health."
It is a shame that our society no longer has the strength to whip people like this female. Five lashes and a day in the stocks would create a more subdued mouth in this woman and serve as an example for other such creatures.
