When you have over 94,000,000 people out of a job; they will work in a restaurant .. if that’s all there is. And, while they’re doing that, they can continue their education and maybe go for a 2nd degree, or write a book, etc.

I know of a retired Chief Engineer of a state highway system
That washed dishes to put himself through college..
With a wife and two small children..
But of course we didn’t have millions of illegal
aliens keeping wages low, taxes high...

Most of those folks are on the dole.
To work in the restaurant industry these days, at least work in the kitchen side of it, you MUST have a grasp of the Spanish language.
