The creeps have been sliming their way into literature for a long time. Especially now in science fiction/fantasy. Or please assume quotes have been put around the aforementioned literary categories.

A smuggled premise. You can’t persuade a hetero to become a homo if the inclination is not already there. Think about it. Sexual arousal is a physiological response. If you’re a hetero guy and not turned on by another guy’s hairy butt, no amount of persuasion is going to make that guy’s hairy butt trigger a physiological response in you.
Conversely, trying to “cure” a homosexual is only going to frustrate you and annoy the homosexual.

My response to this is to ask them to explain vegan-ism. If genetics are so powerful in determining what we do, how do you explain vegans, who go completely against the omnivore genetics that we are born with?
