Comcast hacked my browser?
meshuge mikey ^ | October 9, 2015 | Meshuge Mikey

when trying to access Free Republic Frun Section on My Chrome browser....it defaults to a Comcast Activation Page.

Id be very careful about using this link f youre a COMCAST CUSTOMER..

https://activate.comcast.com/RoutingEngine/accountlookup.do

Yes Id be very careful about using this link f youre a COMCAST CUSTOMER..as Id hate to see anyone stuck in this partiular loop de loop

I changed service today..got a new modem...got activated...and all was seemingly well until I tried to log on the Free Republic....with my CHROME Browser.

My safari browser hasnt been hijacked oddly enough.

the people at comcast. have NO IDEA why this happened.

I can reach the Pings Page...with no problem.

Id rather us CHROME as I can use the font I want for this forum. but if I cant navigate between PINGs and the main FORUM page..It makes using chrome pretty problematic.

If anyone here has any ideas how to solve this minor but very irritating dilemma Id love to here them.

Google chrome is a really bad idea.

No way I’d use that software. I don’t even use google to search anymore.

You have to check your comcast bill each and every month.. they will add channels to your cabbl package and services to your internet package without your request and without your permission....then run your bill higher.

Everyone who downloads torrents already know Comcast throttles your connections so why trust them?

Once you go through the activation page it should stop.

Same thing is happening to me through Safari. Both here and at Drudge. Been going on for about a week.

You're correct. Most likely his MAC address isn't registered with Comcast (he did buy a new cable modem...) and unless you actually CALL Comcast and give them the MAC address so they can set it up in their system, just about the only thing you'll get is their activation page.

Comcast did a bunch of work in my area two weeks ago and however it happened, they blew everyone's cable modems right out of the water. Everyone who rented their cable modem got a new one the next day. I had to plug in my spare Cable Modem (I always have backup devices...) and call them to register it with their network.

Not the brightest bunch, those Comcast phone support monkeys......

Actually I was internet tech support for them before being laid off. They transitioned most of our local operations to out-sourced call centers.

Frun is Free Republic secret squirrel stuff. Sometimes, internet providers hijack your browser because of it...

Stay away from Firefox, too liberal. Go with Palemoon. Still a Mozilla browser, just without the liberal loonies.
