I just this minute donated $100 to Ted. They must be concerned about contributions because I received 4 emails asking for money in the past 3 hours.
Every campaign is concerned.
When Cruz was on that Late Night Show he joked about that.
Something to the effect that running a campaign, he has had to shift to asking about money more.
“Hi I’m Ted Cruz. Nice tie. Can you please donate?”
“Hi - welcome. Can you donate $50 today?”
2nd Vet knows most about fund raising, but here’s probably why:

Their reputation! Their competitive edge! The fate of the entire campaign! Many of the breathless pleas for cash struck notes of near desperation, while others pitched less doom and gloom. “
