That New U.S. Army Patch With Scimitars is Downright Creepy
American Thinker ^ | 30 September, 2015 | Carol Brown

The United States Army has created a new patch for soldiers who are fighting ISIS in Iraq.

USA Today reports that “the Army's patch features crossed scimitars, a palm wreath and stars. The scimitars, short swords with curved blades, are meant to symbolize the twin goals of the U.S.-led coalition: to defeat the Islamic State, also referred to as ISIL, and to restore stability in the region, according to Army documents. The palm wreath is symbol of honor. While the stars and the buff-and-blue colors on the patch indicate the three-star command and the land, air and sea forces involved in the fight.”

Sure. Whatever.

AT readers, you be the judge. As featured at Atlas Shrugs, here is an image of the new patch on the right, next to an image of a Muslim Brotherhood symbol on the left.

The Islamic ring he wars except when sending it in for “repair” during Ramadan confirms it for me. I understand he has been wearing this since his trip to Pakistan.

GreyFriar, I have no idea what the Heraldry website is or how it’s supposed to work, but I tried searching for my old unit, 366th Tactical Fighter Wing, and it came up with nothing.

Here is a link to the TOIH Air Force page:

I didn’t find you old unit either. You might try the USAF Historical Research Agency website: http://www.afhra.af.mil/

I wasn't looking for a copy of my unit's insignia. I have several copies on my uniforms in storage.

This is not my image, but this is the insignia I wore from 1978-81:

My point was that the TOIH website didn't have a current Air Force fighter wing's insignia, so it isn't an exhaustive source for every single authorized insignia.

In their "about" page, they say that digitizing unit insignias is an ongoing process, and far from being complete.

“So look up, your redemption draws neigh”

On this you and I can agree. I do so every day, because NO ONE is promised tomorrow.

You could have as easily picked any Christian nation since the birth of Jesus (and his resurrection) and apply your ‘types’ to them. Nations come and go. We see through a glass darkly

The hilt is everything that isn’t the blade and consists of the grip (the part you wrap your hand around), the pommel (the generally enlarged base that keeps your hand from slipping off the bottom end), the quillon (the cross piece that keeps the hand from moving forward onto the blade), and on some swords and sabers, the knuckle or “D” guard.

Yep, and it’s the guard, not the hilt, that looks like a half swastika. (Almost slipped there. Typed swastinka but caught myself).

The guard, or quillon, is part of the hilt.

But if you go back to my original post - I’m not say that the hilt looks like the half swastika, I’m saying the guard does. Specificity can help clarify things, the ‘hilt’ crowd is just obfuscating the issue.
