“Trump is a mile wide in rhetoric, but his depth of policy understanding is almost nonexistent.”

Trump approaches these issues differently. He’s fundamentally a manager. That makes some people uneasy, but it’s really his greatest asset.

There are successful CEO’s who are able to successfully manage a tech company, for example, and then leave and have just as much success running a company in a totally different field.

They’re successful, not because they know everything about computers, cars, etc., but because they’re quick learners, able to size up problems quickly, know how to surround themselves with competent advisers, and are able to grasp the essentials of a subject matter quickly, and solve problems. This may be a better qualification for a President than being an expert on any one subject matter. policy wonk.

Therein lies the problem, though. It’s one thing to manage a company, it’s something quite another to serve as commander-in-chief of a military you at some point are likely to send to fight. Trump’s campaign manager quit partly because Trump wouldn’t take the time to read daily briefs and otherwise build knowledge of issues beyond a 30,000-foot-level view.
