My grandmother (my Mom’s mom) was the first female bank teller in Nebraska (working at her uncle’s bank) and one day Buffalo Bill Cody himself walked in and asked if she could make change for a $1,000 bill. She told me that she replied: “Mister, I’ve never even seen a $1,000 bill in my life.” This would have been around 1905.
That would have probably been the equivalent of maybe $50,000 now.
