Earlier this year, the Mirror published an article all about this entitled “Panicked super rich buying boltholes with private airstrips to escape if poor rise up“. Here is a brief excerpt…

Robert Johnson, president of the Institute of New Economic Thinking, told people at the World Economic Forum in Davos that many hedge fund managers were already planning their escapes. He said: “I know hedge fund managers all over the world who are buying airstrips and farms in places like New Zealand because they think they need a getaway.” Keep in mind that these are not just some rumors that Robert Johnson has heard. These are people that he knows personally and that he interacts with regularly.

Switzerland might be OK. My husband came within a hair of taking a job in Luxembourg this year. I think any of those European banking havens *might* be OK because the elites have such strong ties there. That said there is strong evidence the elites are building in remote areas all over the globe--so who knows. I'd feel OK in Switzerland, I can get by with German and look like them. It's very expensive though so we'd certainly need a revenue stream or two.

In South America, not so much. I have no propensity for Spanish. I don't really enjoy their cultures aside from any European influence.

The distrust factor is huge in rural areas. It has take quite a bit of time to build any rapport with our neighbors up there in Colorado. They view us as some sort of city slicker types, yuppie types, I think. Somewhat understandable, the woman before was a big liberal lunatic My husband has spent some time with a few of them, I think he even was up there once and had Easter dinner with one of them. They are always pretty surprised to find out we are radical lunatics too. (:

I would recommend beginning to build relationships there...maybe join a local organization or church and attend when you are around there...maybe be around there a bit more often. Folks in the country are funny...but, generally speaking I find them better natured than city folk... :)

There will undoubtedly be some preppers in the area...those are the people you really need to connect with.

Skills are important as well...especially medical skills...

Like I mentioned in my last post, we decided not to move so that we could remain where folks have known us for some time. That could be difficult in a city...

There is a trade off between far enough from population areas and being close enough for important services. I think we are probably reasonably okay for both...but I would expect some kind of trouble from time to time.

I think the most important thing is to get right with God...and to serve Him now and especially during tumultuous times.
