Back in the days of “Laugh In”, Joann Worley ended one show with “Every night I go to bed after having a little nip. An Oriental midget then walked out on stage and brought down the house.
The next day the liberals were climbing all over each other, trying to be the first to denounce her and I suspect the Professional Victim crowd was gearing up.
Alas, the whole thing fell apart when the Japanese community, en masse, came out and said they thought it was hilarious. Talk about a tempest in a teapot - pun intended.
The flip side was one year TNT was going to show a Charlie Chan marathon and the tiny Chinese Professional Victim crowd showed up and demanded that it not be run as it was “demeaning” to Chinese people. Naturally, management folded.
I thought it ironic as Charlie always outsmarted the bad guy, usually white and did it with class - throwing in a “Confucius Say” one liner. I wish that chicken manager would have asked them why no Italians ever complained about Colombo, with his beater car and shabby raincoat.
Just because I was bored, I Googled "Trump" and the results were predictable; on the first page of results, 90% negative and 10% neutral. It's hard to understand how his poll numbers keep going up when he's so unpopular. It's probably something like the Yogi Berra phenomenon, "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded." This was my favorite headline from the whole crop: Donald Trump Mocks Asians: Uses Broken English While Speaking About China & Japan 0 Hollywood Life. Because, you know, Hollywood would never THINK of mocking Asians. The media just doesn't get The Donald yet: political correctness is really not his métier. He's trying to make America great again. And part of being great is being able to have fun 00 horrors! 00 even if it's sometimes at the expense of others. Even others of a protected class, not just white males. Offensive as that may be, I think he's on to something.Perhaps it just turns out Asians don't just snort the Demagogic Party line.
