As recounted by Westfall, he kept a list of sins over a period of years, including “Stealing cherry cobs from Edouard Storer.” and “Denying that I did so.” Along with “Striking many” and “Putting a pin in John Keys hat on Thy day to pick him.”
There is also included an account of a very rough sounding fight, apparently abetted by “the schoolmaster’s son”, in which Newton prevailed over his opponent and, with encouragement, “pulled him along by the ears & thrust his face against the side of the Church.”
