If they no longer allow the hunting of big game like lions and big cats, they will become extinct even faster. The big game are worth a great deal of money and are protected in order to be hunted. The governments have a vested interest to protect them. So do the local populous. When that incentive is removed, the animals become a nuisance and are quickly killed by the locals.

It is simply a fact that hunters are particularly interested in the propagation of large game so that their will be sufficient numbers to continue to hunt.

I agree with the hunt to preserve paradigm but this animal’s hunt was “dubious” as it was a tracked animal that was lured. I an fine with others hunting them as long as it is legitimate and does indeed help preserve the species. I just wont be shooting them myself as i hold a personal opinion about not wanting to kill another top predator.

Yes people pay big bucks to cull the herds. That money helps keep the African conservation programs going.

At age 13 Cecil only had another year or so left anyway before some younger male killed or drove him out. The older male lions die bad deaths from fighting wounds and the hyenas get them etc. Not pretty.
