My fond memories of the Carter years:
- Driving a gas guzzling clunker because even they were cheaper than an 18%+ auto loan.
- Working two part-time jobs while carrying a full-time college load.
- An economics course which promoted a theory called the Phillips Curve to explain why unemployment and inflation would both continue to rise in tandem indefinitely.
- A sinking feeling that even when I earned a useful degree, I'd never be able to get a decent paying job or start a family.
- Burning wood because fossil fuel based energy was so expensive.

I have found memories of gas rationing, only being able to get gas on “odd days” according to number on my license plate. I remember those high interest rates on houses, too.
