Have you heard the news? Scientists have found a planet that can support life. Its atmosphere is too hot for year-round habitation, its gases impede breathing, and surface conditions are sometimes fatal. But by constructing a network of sealed facilities, tunnels, and vehicles, humans could survive on this planet for decades and perhaps even centuries.
The planet is called Earth.
Will Saletan writes about politics, science, technology, and other stuff for Slate. Hes the author of Bearing Right.
If you've seen this planet lately, you know what's going on: temperature records shattering, scores of Americans dead. By summer's end, the toll will be in the hundreds. It's not as bad as 2003, when a heat wave killed 30,000 people in Europe. But according to global-warming forecasts, within 40 years, every other summer will be like that one.

He missed a bet by failing to declare AC inherently racist.
Hispanics in the US having more kids on average than the ones in Mexico, especially the first generation immigrants.
Good morning!
I couldn’t live without AC. I lost mine for two weeks due to Hurricane Irene and spent most of the time living in the bathtub where it was still cool.
I was joking I wanted to get on a flight to Alaska. Someplace so cold I would freeze.
I’m one of those people who would rather be cold than hot. I could never live in a tropical place.
Maybe I should look for work as one of Santa’s elves.
Well, it is. Even today, poor blacks sleep on thee fire escapes, in New York City
It’s long past time to rise up and simply go all Robespierre on the leftists over at Slate.
THEN things will be normal again.
How does this compare to the energy that’s used to heat homes in the winter?
Weeding out the weak and stupid, improving the gene pool.
The air conditioner drove people indoors and away from their neighbors and outdoor activities... It made the front porch obsolete, almost..
But too many lefty @$$hole$ are among their number. They take their unfortunate voting habits with them, and are ruining a lot of the South.
We could build more nuke plants, to cool without adding "greenhouse gases", but these watermelons never recommend that.
I guess they're not really worried about CO2.
Yep, sheer idiocy.
Of course as a southerner I’d like to see air conditioning outlawed- because it attracts Yankees.
And all Americans would benefit if DC wasn’t air conditioned.
Oh yeah, these things never end. It’s part of “energy assistance” with heat assistance. It’s a mixed federal-state welfare program. Pays bills and buys ACs.
Overall, heat waves killed more people in the U.S. than any other extreme weather event, the CDC researchers reported.
Air conditioning is a useful tool to combat the extreme heat, but researchers found that many of the deceased in New York did not have a working air conditioner. Obesity was another common factor among those who died.
The researchers said that New York City should make an effort to prevent heat illness by making it easier to access air conditioning and by increasing awareness of heat-related dangers, risk factors and protective measures among those who are at a higher risk and their caregivers.
Older people and those with chronic diseases should be encouraged to stay hydrated and use air conditioning or stay in areas that are air conditioned. Caregivers should also stop by often to make sure that people potentially in danger are okay.

If AC was outlawed, Slate Mag would cease to exist...
No AC, server farm overheats, computers blow up!
That’s certainly one of the reasons behind the “progressive” fervent desire to make electricity rates skyrocket via “carbon” regulations.
