This isn’t a north / south issue, its a conservative vs liberal issue. The confederate battle flag is just an easy target but its only the first. Next week could be the Gadsen flag or my own state flag because there is a man with a gun on it. If anything, its a liberal attempt to divide northern and southern conservatives.

Its not uncommon to see the flag here in the north either. I’ve got a neighbor just outside of town who has a mural with a tattered battle flag standing over a mountaintop.

I was never taught that the south was bad or that the confederate battle flag was a symbol of hate. General Lee has always been spoken pretty highly of here in the north.

Maryland is safe.
We already have a transgender motto.

“Manly deeds. Womanly words.”

Whatever the hell *that* was supposed to mean.

[Lord, I hope no one ever figures out what the heraldry of our flag really means]

Lee’s strategies are still taught at West Point.

My grade school experience in the North in the 50's was different than yours. Lee was the ghoulish evil tyrant trying to keep the black man down. Grant was next to the right hand of God.

At one point in Jr. High, I decided to read a biography of Lee to see how bad he really was. It was not a kid's book. At first, is was quite surprised as Lee seemed honest, sincere while being conflicted over the state of our nation.

In the end, I realized that much of what I had been told about Lee was a lie. From Jr. High on I was very skeptical of everything being taught to me about history. This event of discovering the truth behind the lie, changed my life.
