They have products based in potato fiber on the market already, but they absolutely still require direct pressure to seal the wound. And applying direct pressure for several minutes seems like hours when you are doing it.

The major downside to stopping gusher type wounds is if the capillary, artery or vein has such a disconnect that blood will begin to pool in the tissues.
