_Plants of the Rocky Mountains_ (Kershaw, MacKinnon, Pojar) is a good one for plants.

every year, for a couple of days in May, i see these falcons flying around my neighborhood (which happens to be just a bit north of the USAFA).

they are also easy to identify by their markings. ;)
