Some Topeka residents woke up Monday with a strong message at their doors.
Residents in more than one neighborhood found fliers from the Ku Klux Klan in clear zip-close bags weighted by rocks on their property.
In the 1900 block of S.W. Cheyenne Road, Peggy Hanna said she saw bags at nearly every home on the east side of the road from S.W. 17th Street to Belle Avenue on her morning run. Some were in the gutter, others were in driveways and yards.
Just before 7 a.m., Hanna picked up a bag in her own driveway and threw it away thinking it was trash, but after seeing other bags she went home to see what was inside the bag she threw away.
She was shocked to find a message from the Ku Klux Klan.
Its just odd, very, very odd, she said adding that since moving into her home in the late 1980s, she has never heard of any KKK-related soliciting.
The two different fliers both appear to have been distributed by members or supporters of the Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, an associated group of the KKK the Southern Poverty Law Center lists as being active in Alabama and Missouri.
The Southern Poverty Law Center has deemed the KKK a hate group, but doesnt list an active organization in Kansas.
The Shawnee County Emergency Communications Center confirmed it received at least one call Monday morning about the fliers. While the number of neighborhoods that received KKK fliers is unclear, Topeka police Lt. Colleen Stuart, said the department is aware residents are concerned about Klan activity.
We went out this morning to a residence and picked one up that had been in their yard, Stuart said.
She said that while the fliers shouldnt be a cause of concern for safety, Topeka police are still talking about whether a notice should be sent out to the public. Multiple commanders have been notified.
The flier doesnt threaten, Stuart said. The fact that the KKK is on it I think is probably enough for some people to become concerned.
The fliers appear to be dated. One flier reads, Warning for White Americans at the top. It states, There has been a significant increase in the last few years of violent black on white crime.
It goes on to list the dates, locations and vague descriptions of six incidences of violent crimes the flier claims black people committed on white people, all occurring in 2013. Further down it mentions the case of Florida man George Zimmerman who shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The flier claims that incident happened last year, but it occurred in 2012.
The second flyer reads Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan at the top, accompanied with an image of a person in a white hood and robe. Below the image the flyer reads Neighborhood Watch and You can sleep tonight knowing the Klan is awake!
Both fliers include a phone number and website address.
Calls to numbers listed on the flier and KKK websites werent immediately returned.
Were the notices being passed out by a white girl with dreadlocks and a spray-on tan?
Probably distributed by Morris Dees’ people . . .
I would bet there are fingerprints on the plastic bags. So when the prints are matched to someone connected to the BLACK Southern Poverty Law Center, will the media be as quick to expose the fraud? ... If only

I thought the democrats hated the neighborhood watch.
Ah, lazy, stupid media.
Asking the SPLC about anything is like asking the Flat Earth Society for navigation charts.
Dated? No, as current as today's headlines, you might say.
Like the KKK really has the budget for rocks.
seriesly,, I don’ts believe it either...
A hoax.
And we know it is from the Klan because the flyer says it is from the Klan.
The Klan has apparently never heard of Twitter
Reports that this is a hoax soon to follow - on page Q17.
Last I checked leafleting is still protected speech. There is no reason for law enforcement to be involved in this. None at all.
Seriously, if the Klan did not exist, the Democrats would create it as a boogeyman.
Oh wait, they did...
Actually this happened at our church many years ago. It turned out to be a local nut who had wandered off his meds. It went from being “dangerous racists” to “the plight of the mentally ill”.
LOL
Not a snowball's chance. 😂
THIS one illustrates just how far the Left will go to stoke the fires: a fake KKK flier left on your doorstep.
A few deer-trail cams set up around the house would have stopped this cold.
And how many people believed this?
