I remember being sent to the store for cigarettes, lighters, pipe tobacco, and to the gas station to get gas for the lawn mower. All happening while I was under age 10.

I was sent to the neighborhood minimart (the only equivalent I can think of) to buy coke syrup when I had a stomach ailment. Oh, the indignity of having to walk to purchase your remedy when you're the sick one!
One summer, probably 1969, two friends and I loaded up our packs and went on a three-day, forty mile hike on the Appalachian trail.

Car seats...and seat belts? Did cars have them? I was stopped in CT for not having my son buckled in... In a 1954 Sunliner my friend owned. I told the guy it DIDN’T. have seat belts. He told me my son shouldn’t be in it then.
