As Siliconera reported earlier today, a Final Fantasy VII remake is coming to PlayStation 4.
Sony announced the game at their E3 press conference, specifying that the Final Fantasy VII remake is coming first to PlayStation 4.
The game will be directed by Tetsuya Nomura, with a scenario written by Kazushige Nojima.

They said a bomb would be dropped on E3 today, well this is it.
For all the Freepers who played and enjoyed the orginal FF7 many years ago.
(PUTS FLAME SUIT ON)
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL game..too bad all the good games come out in 2016
Why do they need a director for a movie with no human actors? :)
I thought they did that with Transformers and The Twilight Movies?
Unchartered 4 looks stunning as well..so many great games..Rock Band 4 band in a box looks good too
Awesome my Hawks won the cup! And now this!
Oh yeah, but the only thing I can say, is that for better or worse Square Enix’s Ass is on the line, this is their Star Wars moment, if they succeed they will be on top again just like the old days, if they fail they will burn, and burn hard, its in theirs and the free markets hands now.
What’s so special about this particular Final Fantasy?
It was the first post-cartridge Final Fantasy, so it was epic in scope, had a great soundtrack, lots of FMV. It was the first big RPG on the original Sony Playstation, and ended up being the first RPG a lot of people were exposed to.
Please make Ruby Weapon a little harder to beat this time....
You are missing out chum. 7, 8, 10 and 12 are absolute awesome. 9 is sort of a one-off but still great. By Fallout/Skyrim standards they are right there in story. Probably better actually. The graphics of 10 and 12 are still holding up well.
But as much as I love them, and I do, they pale in comparison to Xenogears on the PS1 and Xenodaga 1/2/3 on the PS2. Absolutely PALE.
If you want your mind tied into a knot, look up the translation for the book “Xenosaga Perfect Works” which was an art/info book that was released in Japan. Kind of a bible for the game. No game since, Including Mass Effect, has come remotely close to the scope of the histories/galactic scale of Xeno. But it’s the story. Dear God that story!
Most adults would be hard pressed to wrap their heads around everything involved much less the market it was released to. You have to read up on it. It is the absolute pinnacle of RPG/Jrpg and for me, blows FF clear out of the water.
KOS-MOS FTW.
Characters that mattered.
Edit: XenoSaga
We have heard this rumor before...IF it is true then this is stunning news. FFVII is the one that proved computer games could be an art form on par with the Cinema. For SquareEnix this is the gamble of a lifetime, either they will win...or they will die.
FF Spirits Within damn near killed them. But it was a great and groundbreaking piece of movie making. It was just so damn expensive and poorly marketed.
FF7 HD will be a Skyrim level goldmine and system seller. IF they don’t screw it up by ‘expanding’ and rewriting it. Clone it 1-1 with new graphics and voice acting of the original lines and leave out what people ‘want’ to be in the original but isn’t. FF7 and all the other classics largely took place in our minds. Best to keep that ethos.
As a huge FF fan since childhood, I never liked 7 or 8. I just thought those two sucked. Now, if they remake 2 or especially 3, let me know.
You’re right about this being a life or death situation for square enix. Number 7 was and is hugely popular. Basically every FF nerd but me is tripping out.
Not a rumor it is true, they showed it at E3 and if you watch the trailer it is for real not that FF7 tech demo they released years ago that gave people false hope, also more for your info,
