Its hard to get 96 percent of people to agree on anything, but last months Wall Street Journal/NBC poll found that 96 percent of those surveyed believe we are in for a summer of racial unrest. In the wake of Ferguson and Baltimore, its time for some reflection on how we got here.
This year marks two significant anniversaries. In August 1965, the Watts riots broke out in Los Angeles, leading to 34 deaths and $300 million in property damage. Coming after the passage of well-intentioned Great Society welfare programs, the riots made clear that government spending wasnt going to solve all the problems of urban America.
Indeed, another 50th anniversary we mark this year is that of a seminal work that helped explain why government would be no panacea: Assistant Secretary of Labor Daniel Patrick Moynihans The Negro Family: A Call for National Action. Published in 1965 and known as the Moynihan Report, it burst many bubbles of liberal thinking.

Sadly, as soon as Moynihans report was leaked to the media, it came under withering assault from his fellow liberals. Civil-rights leader Floyd McKissick angrily attacked it: My major criticism of the report is that it assumes that middle-class American values are the correct values for everyone in America. . . . Therein lies the problem....whose values?
It's evident that many inner-city blacks have chosen a different set.

Of course there will be a long, hot summer...and we can expect an ‘outbreak’ about every two months between now and November 2016. It’s the only way that Hillary! can turn out the black vote.

The long, hot summer will only be in liberal enclaves. The rest of the country is armed to the teeth, and every day is legally killing any number of robbers, rapists, and other thugs.
On day 1 of the Rodney King riots, rioters attacked and looted the Korean area. On day 2, any rioter who went back there would have been gunned down like a dog by the Koreans.
I don’t imagine any white neighborhoods adjacent to black neighborhoods would be any different.

I think you misread that.
The author is stating that despite massive gubmint spending, the problem still exists.

When LBJ launched the War on Poverty, poor folks made up 14.7 percent of American society. Today, that figure is 14.5 percent.

This debate has been around a very long time and trust me, our grandchildren and their grandchildren will be having this same conversation.

The black vote is irrelevant.
Although Obama got 97+% of it, we all know that the several million conservatives who sat it out in 2008 and 2012 were the reason we got an Obama.
That's why it's critical that we don't get a Jeb! in 2016.

Ha - I thought it was going to be about Brain Moynihan. It’s also going to be hot for Bank of America. They’ll probably lose a lot of ATM machines.
Too many Moynihans.
