General McChrystal: Yep, We Knew Bergdahl Was a Deserter Immediately
Bergdahl was officially charged with desertion and inappropriate behavior in front of the enemy earlier this year. He will stand trial at Ft. Sam Houston in Texas. He faces life in prison.
Meanwhile, - the five Taliban leaders who were traded for Bergdahl are expected to be released from Qatar custody - within weeks. - At least one of them has already attempted to engage in jihad against the United States.

He deserted into enemy held territory. He was captured by Taliban. He didn’t just walk off and get lost. McChrystal knew that by his own admission. He should have put the squash on any response until a proper retrieval mission could be mounted. Not just stupid search parties. It’s the shroud of secrecy that descended over the whole thing when they KNEW he’d been captured. That is what McChrystal was responsible for. Of course they should get him back but not by diverting aircraft resources to look for him and sending out search parties. It required an extraction or something more.
Time to retire 90% of the generals and admirals. They're too busy planning for the last war, and too far removed from the troops.
