Is this not a picture of Jesus coming for the Church, for as we read in one of John's letters, when we see Him we will see Him as He is because we will be like Him? The Day of Ascension Jesus blessed them. The Day of The Lord, He comes again to the mount of olives to settle the Kingship.
I can make a pretty good case for the Angels telling the disciples watching His Ascension telling them of the Rapture of His Church. All standing there died. They will be resurrected at the Rapture and see Him in the Air, and seeing Him they will be like Him.
