Solutions to this problem:
* Cut back on college bureaucracy to less than 1 admin per 200 students.
* End all tenure contracts. There should be no such thing in colleges.
* End publish or perish as a decision making criteria except in STEM. It pulls good teachers out of the classroom to do mostly useless research.
* Eliminate the women’s studies and fluff classes.
* Parents need to stop sending kids to go on tours of colleges around the country, when kids decide to go to a 20K a year school out of state instead of the 10K a year program in town. Doubling the price because the campus is nice is STUPID.
* Apply academic standards. If you need a year of remedial courses to attend college, you should go to trade school instead.
* Bring back shop class, car repair classes, add computer aided drafting and computer tech support classes to high school so that many kids in the middle graduate high school with an employable school.
* End credentialitis in hiring, where you automatically get a higher pay rate (such as for teachers) because you have the master’s degree.
TBW2 - some very good points, thanks....
But note that your proposals must be made by individual parents and individual colleges.
The Federal government wants to do something about it, so I’ve tried to set forth ideas for the federal government!
