BOOM: Rating the GOP field on Amnesty
Doug Ross @ Journal ^ | April 18, 2015

Posted on 04/18/2015 11:03:37 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Over at American Thinker, Pedro Gonzales offers an excellent overview of the GOP field's positions on Amnesty. Here's the executive summary: only one candidate has never changed his position on the topic.

Jeb Bush

"...Jeb, as we all know, supports amnesty for illegal aliens, and he's proud of it. If he were running in Honduras, I would vote for him in a minute..."

Marco Rubio

"...Rubio co-authored a bill that would have given amnesty to illegal aliens. He has since tried to walk back from that..."

Chris Christie

"...Chris has been cagey on the subject, but one thing is clear: he ordered his appointee to Frank Lautenberg's Senate seat to vote for Marco Rubio's amnesty bill..."

Rick Perry

"...Perry is tough on illegal immigrants! He sent a handful of national guard troops to the border! (With orders not to arrest any illegals.) But as for those illegals who manage to slip through this imposing gauntlet, Perry rewards them with taxpayer-subsidized college educations. If he's paying for illegals to go to college, I think it's safe to say he supports amnesty..."

Mike Huckabee

"...in February 2007, Huckabee ... stated, 'We shouldn't have amnesty where we just say, "Fine, everybody's good, we're going to let it go.' We should have a process where people can pay the penalties, step up and accept responsibility for not being here legally..."

Scott Walker

"...Walker backed the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill in 2006... [and] went as far as to tell POLITICO in 2013 that he supported a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants..."

Rand Paul

"...Paul claims he's against amnesty, but he voted for an amendment to give 2 million 'temporary' visas to illegal aliens annually...who could then apply for citizenship. It looks like amnesty to me..."

Ted Cruz

"Cruz is the only major candidate who has never supported or endorsed amnesty."

As they say on the real blogs, read the whole thing.

amazing, the american public (not just conservatives) does not support amnesty. But only one candidate appears to be truly against it.

sickening.

Just saying.

She didn’t make her decision not to run in 2012, until the beginning of November I believe.

There is still (plenty) of time.

Cute, Palin won’t be running this time, so you want Paul over Cruz, who is the Palin/Reagan conservative.

Bush is the only serious candidate of those, Palin isn’t running, Ryan will never be a political star, Santorum never was. and as desperate for work as he is, he is only known because he was a weak primary opponent of the hated Romney, and Romney isn’t going to make a serious run either, although he may play around to help grease the path for a moderate/libertarian to block a conservative like Cruz.

Romney switched back to being pro-abortion after he won the nomination in 2012, and came out against the pro-life party platform, he would have an impossible time reversing himself yet again.

I’m pretty sure she won’t run against Ted Cruz. But she might primary John McCain.

Just to put that in perspective.

Voters Strongly Oppose Obama's Amnesty Plan for Illegal Immigrants

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 62% of Likely U.S. Voters oppose the president granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants without the approval of Congress. Just 26% are in favor of Obama's plan, while 12% are undecided

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on August 28-29, 2014 by Rasmussen Reports.

Palin will make her intent (or lack thereof) clear before November this time.

I strongly believe, we will not see such a long wait this year.

I don’t know if she will run, but she’s got my vote if she does.

Just saying.

I meant that Romney was hated by the base, I was well aware that Santorum was a Romney man, and a true devotee of Arlen Specter including for 2010, and mocked Reagan supporters as “right-wing fringe”, switched to pro-life for his first campaign, and described himself as a “progressive conservative” in campaign literature, and said that he is “not a Reagan Republican”.

Could be you’re absolutely right.

If she doesn’t run this time, she’s not going to run, probably ever. But she hasn’t said yet, she’s not running this time.

I believe she is the perfect GOP candidate against Hillary Clinton.

Let’s wait and see.

I'm a huge Palin fan, and Palin is not running.

If you want to see Palin in this campaign, then look at Cruz.

Palin is about moving the nation to the right, and creating a right wing movement with plenty of candidates and office holders to represent us.

“I would not be in the U.S. Senate today if it were not for Governor Palin,” Cruz said.”

Remember that Palin only turned 51 in February, if she feels that her influence needs another elective office for a term or two, she will do it.

Hillary Clinton is a front runner for President, in almost 17 years, Palin will be her age, and it will be in 2032, when 67 will seem even younger, (especially for a woman who has/does? run marathons).

Re: “”Cruz is the only major candidate who has never supported or endorsed amnesty.”

Completely false.

From the New York Times, 12 September 2013...

Ted Cruz: “The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight,” [Cruz] said during a recent visit to El Paso. Mr. Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation or, as Mitt Romney famously advocated, self-deportation.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/13/us/cruz-tries-to-claim-the-middle-ground-on-immigration.html?_r=1

According to the text of the Gang of Eight Amnesty Bill, once an illegal immigrant receives the “underlying work permit,” he may apply at any time for a Green Card.

http://www.fairus.org/DocServer/amnesty_2013_debate/FAIR_S744_Registered-Provisional-Immigrant-Status_DREAM-Act_%20AgJOBS.pdf

Ted Cruz's record on LEGAL immigration is even more disturbing.

Cruz advocates a 5X increase for H1-B work visas. Cruz advocates an annual 650,000 Green Card increase. Cruz advocates special increases for Mexican immigrants. Cruz advocates increases for agricultural guest workers.

http://blog.chron.com/texassparkle/2014/01/sen-ted-cruz-on-immigration-reform-fighting-the-establishment-and-the-human-costs-of-illegal-immigration/

Cruz has never called for a reduction in our current level of LEGAL immigration - 1.25 million per year - which is the highest in American history.

Finally, Cruz has never explained why new immigration laws would be vigorously enforced in the future when our current immigration laws have not been enforced for the last 30 years!

Rick Perry on the Record

Question: "But just to be clear: if border security is accomplished, you can envision some sort of path to citizenship for people who are here illegally?"

And Perry's response?

"Sure."
