I am tired of liberals saying Cruz isn't eligible to be president because of his father. US citizenship is passed thru the mother, correct? How can these dirt bags who backed Obama, who claimed on numerous forms he is a citizen of Kenya and has mis-matched SSN numbers get all high and mighty on Cruz?
This has been attempted many times to foment doubt in voters minds.
The supreme court has never ruled on the definition of “natural born citizen”.
Conventional wisdom is that a person is a natural born citizen if one of their parents is a U.S. citizen and has not renounced their U.S. citizenship...regardless of where they were born.
Think about it for a moment. If this were not so, any U.S. citizen (female), while pregnant, takes a temporary job outside the U.S. or happen to be staying with relatives overseas, on vacation and end up having her child in a foreign country...would that child not be a citizen of the United States?
The SCOTUS has refused to this point to hear cases having to do with “natural born citizenship”, not sure why.
I always thought that both parents had to be U.S. citizens, but that is not how the constitution reads.
Article II, Section I
No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

As you can see, natural born citizen is not clearly defined. One or two parents being a U.S. citizen.
No to the first. And as for the second, in spite of all the hullabaloo that has been going on the past 7 years nobody has been able to prove that he isn't.
One of the things I discovered during the Obama birth certificate debates was that there may be an easy way to determine that a person is not a citizen, once they are identified as a citizen things get squishy. This is especially true when someone tries to make distinctions regarding a person who is “born a citizen”.
So, regarding the requirement that the president must be a “natural born” citizen, I look at that requirement within the definition of “natural born citizen” within the context of the document stating the requirement.
Based on that, I think “natural born” means you were “born a citizen” and did not have to apply for and get citizenship.
Which brings up the concept of anchor babies as they existed at the founding of our nation.
the founders used the term ‘citizen’ for every position defined by the Constitution... EXCEPT potus. they did this specifically, and it was discuss in the federalist papers.
being born in the country as an anchor baby allows you to be a citizen... a native born citizen if you will, but not a natural born citizen.
it’s very simple:
a natural born citizen is a citizen naturally... as there are no alternatives.
if your parents were citizens of another country, you have alternatives. if you were born on another country’s soil, you have alternatives. the only way for you to be born with no other choice but to be american, is if you are born on the soil of 2 citizen parents.
i’ve been saying the exact same thing for 6+ years.
Passed through the mother, because you always know who the mother is! Daddy, not so much.
I’m with you in spirit.
What video would that be?
Leslie Marshall said on Twitter that the “birthers” should realize that Cruz was born in Canada, while 0b0z0 was born in the US. I’m sure that meme will circulate for a while.
I'm not aware of any libs saying this. It was a pretty popular argument around here for a while though.
No, she did not call him 0b0z0, of course.
A child never inherits the parents' type of citizenship. A naturalized citizen can give birth to a natural born citizen.

The one you missed, it appears.
No, I didn't miss it.
Throughout '09-'10, there were upwards of about a half dozen birther threads posted here daily. I posted on nearly all of them. There is no actual video of Obama claiming he was born in Kenya.
The Kenyan birth conspiracy is preposterous and nobody outside the birther circus is buying the "must be born of two citizen parents" argument. Barack Obama is eligible to be President. So is Ted Cruz.
Like I said, the one you missed.
Just out of curiosity I did a search to see if those videos had been scrubbed from the net. It took ten seconds to find a half dozen, troll.
So let's see 'em!
See if there is an adult there to help you.
It doesn't work that way.
I'm not the one making the claim there are videos of Obama saying he was born in Kenya. You are. I'm the one making the claim there aren't. Put up or shut up.
