“It takes 4.72kWh to produce a liter stored as a liquid at 20K.” That is one answer to how much power it will take to produce one gallon of liquid hydrogen. Or to put it another way: wind and solar are out, large coal and nuclear power plants are in.
Perhaps the long awaited release of a working thermonuclear commercial power plant from Lockheed’s Skunk Works will make this a practical reality.
imho what’s most interesting about the article is not where hydrogen cars are right now but rather how far they have come and the determination, technological chops and deep pockets of the people behind them—meaning improvements will continue to be made.
