I love that song “everybody wants to rule the world” I heard it today on the radio.

No problem. You would’ve been too late anyway!

Shows that disco is alot more popular than the vocal internet fringe element gives it credit for.

;-D

I love disco. But I do have a hard time placing it here for representing the ‘80s. But then, that is true of many of the songs to me.

But Rick Astley wasnt disco. Disco was dead 5-6 years by 1987!

Seriously? A generic, catchy 50s flashback beat out Floyd? Ugh.

Sure it was. Time period doesn’t matter, just like the comment about “50s flashback”. Donna Summer had a few hits around then that were still, really, disco.

I’ll make the comment again - the Wall - goes on and on and on, includes snooty-sounding English kids with bad accents coming through, and the ending instrumental goes on and on.....

Would’ve been better shorter.

And indeed, the version released to pop radio WAS shorter.

Crazy Little Thing Called Love is absolutely un-annoying and harmless. But that’s just it: there’s nothing to it. It could’ve been a commercial jingle. There were 1,000 other songs just like it.

I like it (but then, I like alot of the songs on this contest). But I was surprised it was so high on the charts for the year!

The thing with these contests using the bracket system is that while simple (only comparing 2 songs), it also makes it easier for any given song to move up.

Also, consider we only average about 20 voters so far. Hardly a great sample, although I’d argue in some ways the results are pretty representative. But as far as representing, I still can’t believe MJ and Prince and Madonna did not make it through much at all - wow. Just... wow.
