The Muslims of Early America (Fact or Fiction?)

IT was not the imam’s first time at the rodeo.

Scheduled to deliver an invocation at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo last week, Moujahed Bakhach of the local Islamic Association of Tarrant County canceled his appearance because of the backlash brought on by a prayer he had offered a few days before. The imam had been asked to confer a blessing on horses, riders and members of the military. He was met with gasps from the audience and social media complaints: “Outraged at a Muslim prayer at an all American event!” “Cowboys don’t want it!”

Vocal anti-Islamic sentiment is undergoing a revival. Four days before the imam’s canceled benediction, protesters at the State Capitol in Austin shouted down Muslim speakers, claiming Texas in the name of Jesus alone. In North Carolina two weeks earlier, Duke University’s plan to broadcast a Muslim call to prayer was abandoned amid threats of violence. Meanwhile Gov. Bobby Jindal, Republican of Louisiana claimed that if American Muslims “want to set up their own culture and values, that’s not immigration, that’s really invasion.”

The story of Islam in early America is not merely one of isolated individuals. An estimated 20 percent of enslaved Africans were Muslims, and many sought to recreate the communities they had known.

Oh, geez, so not only were Americans slave owners, but they were also Islamophobic slave owning haters.

Oh, the hugemanatee...

This "author" hasn't footnoted any of this, I call BS!

Islam DID have an impact on early American. In fact, during Jefferson’s presidency, the largest expense was extortion payments to Islamic pirates.

John Smith (of Jamestown and Pocahontas fame) was a slave of the Islamic Ottoman empire before he escaped from the clutches of those demons ... so does he count?

Thomas Jefferson also owned a Koran (which I understand that he perused to know one of his enemies ... albeit fairly remote at the time ... better).

So I see some Islamic connection with the founding fathers. They basically all uniformly understood it was an evil force, and they probably never suspected that their ancestors would end up welcoming this pestilence onto our shores with open arms (rather than doing what they would have done -- smashing it over the head with a shovel as soon as it poked out of a hole).

I’m sure Brian Williams can attest to the muzzies being here before the Vikings.

Were the African slaves muslim by choice or were they forced into it by their muslim slavers?

Whether the Muslims were in America before its founding is not relevant. The fact that matters is that America was founded as a Christian nation. While we never had a state religion, our laws are based on common law and Christian teachings. If we were a Muslim nation we would have sharia laws. I want zero to do with Muslims and Islam. Islam is based on the delusions for a terrorist - Muhammad. The god of Islam is a false god and has nothing to do with our God. For this, I have no desire in hearing a prayer from any Muslim. I have no idea why an Imam would be invited to pray at a rodeo. Political Correctness is the only thing I can some up with.

A clue to what happened to these forgotten American Muslims can be found in the words of a missionary traveling through the South to preach the gospel on slave plantations. Many “Mohammedan Africans,” he noted, had found ways to “accommodate” Islam to the new beliefs imposed upon them. “God, say they, is Allah, and Jesus Christ is Mohammed. The religion is the same, but different countries have different names.”

So these muslim loyalists never heard that Islam refers to Jesus Christ as a prophet? Someone different from Mohammed?

Bullstalin What bunk.

Even his book on the subject contains no footnotes.

“The recent blizzard in Boston snowed me in and forced me to read this captivating book nonstop for a few days - could not be happier about it. Manseau provides readers with an exceptional, intriguing reexamination of American history. This book depicts a thought-provoking picture of America with so much depth. If you read it with an open mind, you will likely be astonished. My only real complaint is regarding the absence of footnotes, but the notes at the end of the book suffice.”

Even his book on the subject contains no footnotes.

It's the continuing revisionist history phenomenon; no proof to back up anything, just wishful thinking and the quotes of other lying liberals

Like you said, this country was founded on Judeo-Christian principles.

I wonder how much of it was sourced from the Nation of Islam. Their mantra was that White Man’s Jesus enlsaves and that (black separatist) Islam ‘frees’ men.

The only muslim documented to be in early America became interested in a local Indian princess. When he turned his intentions to her in private, she spurned him. Since that was unacceptable, he hit her. She hit him back. The ruckus drew the attention of others in the tribe, who pulled her off him, took him outside, and promptly put him to death.

Thus passeth the early Islamic influence in America.

Sorry I lost the reference, how ever I may have seen it on FR at some time in the past.
