Democrats rounded up American citizens and put them in concentration camps during World War II. We paid reparations to the Japanese American citizens who went through this experience.
The merits/demerits of what happened have been and doubtless will be argued. War is never an easy time and Japanese attacks by balloon were plaguing the Western seaboard and points much further east. Japanese atrocities of war had become so bad that to say Jap was to say a dirty word. Yet now they are viewed as one of the better success stories of civilization (when they have not run wild).
