In Venezuela, todays satire is tomorrow's headline news.

Pretty much the same here in the US for the last 6 years, it's just that Obama is few steps behind Chavez's Venezuela.

But he is catching up fast.

This is taking “satire” to a really stupid place. Too much of history is exactly this happening (just change proper nouns involved), and it’s too likely to happen soon for real. We’re too close to WWIII to take such ideas as laughable.

Satire can be amusing when it’s based on reducto ad absurdum.
It’s stupid, even dangerous, when indistinguishable from what has/is/will happen and has voluminous historical precedent.

At least it’s marked “[satire]”. Thanks, JR, for requiring it.
