Seems to me the family in question had 13 years to get her help or commit her, either they didn`t or it didn`t work. Either way, now she commits ‘suicide by cop’ after the family witnessed two previous unsuccessful attempts and it`s suddenly the cop`s fault? O-K, talk about rationalizing away personal responsibility.

I love being late to a thread and see all the armchair generals/Monday morning quarterbacking. Fools. You weren't there and neither was I so I won't really comment on the actions or lack of actions of those who were there from the limited information in the article.

However, there are two or three police training videos that show LOTS of knife attacks from edged weapons on people. Everyone should watch them before mouthing something as insipid as "it's just a knife", or "they could have disarmed her".

Anyways, here is one, quiet, deadly individual that kills two cops, permantly incapacitated two, and grievously injures one or two more.

When it goes wrong, it happens fast forward to the 6:00 min mark for the mayhem to begin on the armed cops by someone that "could have easily been disarmed by wusses".

I wasn't there, so I won't jump to a conclusion either way. But bipolar sucks and my heart goes out to the girl and her family. I pray she's found wellness and peace in Jesus' arms.

The thing about bipolar treatment is you can be having a very good period with treatment, counseling, etc. You can feel you've turned the corner. Then, like a switch, a manic episode takes over. It's quick, frustrating, and heartbreaking.

I am a reserve police officer that was trained in knife fighting by a truly great instructor. The technique that he teaches can kill instantly from a few feet away. Once the attack begins you can't react quickly enough to defend against it even with a drawn gun. To defend against a knife attack that you know is coming the rule of thumb used to be 21 feet now it is 30 feet. Like the earlier leo poster I have seen very gruesome training videos about knife attacks.

It never ceases to amaze me how people on FR, that were not there and have no knowledge of how this incident went down, can armchair quarterback a tragic situation like this for both the girl and the officers.
