Which conservative will run against Rauner, in the 2018 primary? He got about 40%, last March.

Republicans in Illinois don't hound out establishment incumbents, certainly not for governor. Rauner has the nomination until he doesn't want it, dies, or is arrested.

In 2006, State Sen. Adeline Geo-Karis, RINO of the 31st District, ran for re-election and lost her primary. She had been a state senator since 1979. In 2010, State Rep. Susie Basi, RINO of the 54th District, ran for re-election and lost her primary.

I agree that it might be difficult for a conservative to defeat Rauner, in the primary, but I hope that a state legislator will try it. That will cause more conservatives to vote in the primary, and they’ll vote for conservative candidates for the U.S. House and state legislature. If the conservative governor candidate loses, that campaign will help him or her, if he or she runs for office in 2020 or ‘22.
