After reading your interesting comment, it reminded me of the novel, The Stranger.
I’ve wondered, if the title: The Stranger, was referring to the protagonist; Meursault, or the Arab he kills. Or, is it the idea, that Christianity, is a stranger in a savage world.
Just rambling a little, De Tocqueville was unusually prophetic.
