How Education Has Empowered Me What is education? There are many who would say that an education is merely an entity that is to be possessed and others who say that it is only a means to move forward in the world, however I believe that education is a key, a key to freedom. Nelson Mandela once said "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world", I truly agree with the wise words of Mr. Mandela and hope that one day I can use my education to do great things. When I was young I would often wonder why I needed an education. I had heard of men and women that have done great things even without a formal education, however, at the time, I could never imagine how helpful a good education would be to me in the not to distant future. I think the best example of how education has empowered has to come from the political perspective. One of the biggest problems that faces the contemporary United States of America, is the lack of educated voters. I blame this epidemic on the mainstream media. It does not matter what news station someone prefers to watch, whether it be Fox, CNN, or MSNBC ideas are suggested to the viewers, if the viewer hears these ideas enough they start to believe them. I made it my goal to be well educated for the 2014 elections, and as such I only needed to do about an hour of research on the candidates in my area, to have my opinion drastically changed. I believe that a well educated voter is more powerful then any political candidate can ever be. I left the polls feeling satisfied because I was able to make my educated opinion count.
