My dad brought an old Jap one back after WWII; he got me with it and then I would get younger sister until she smartened up :-)
I remember my older sister taking psychology and having a wire cage with lab rats with a crank phone attached in her bedroom. She was trying to get them trained to perform certain functions. When she was gone my brothers and I would sneak in and crank that thing to watch them jump. Since there were five of us boys I sure the only thing they learned was to start jumping when they saw anyone with short hair.
