Detroit Public Schools has one classroom teacher for every 16.65 students
When I was in school in the 70s and 80s the classroom size was probably closer to 20 or 25 students and we still got a fair enough education.
Classroom size has nothing to do with effective teaching. Teacher quality is what matters.

I suspect that is the real complaint, that they can’t get quality teachers.
Of course, I wouldn’t blame anyone for not wanting to go there.

We usually had around 30-33 in a classroom...and even though I was a young tyke, I remember the teachers complaining about large classroom sizes.
Now its nearly been cut in half, education isn’t any better, and teachers are still complaining about class sizes.
