....In my far less titillating research on the Hamilton Project (see work listed below), I have come across some interesting ties between MIT economist Jonathan Gruber and the Hamilton Project. Gruberit turns outcarries bags for the Obama administration and the Goldman Sachs, Robert Rubin-funded Hamilton Project. Gruber is a RentEconomist ready and seemingly willing to take any economic position (pardon the RentBoy inspired pun) you might want, for money that is, lots of it as Emptwheel has shown.......
....But while I have been doing research recently on the links between the Obama government and Robert Rubin and Goldman Sachs and the think tank they founded, The Hamilton Project, I have found that there are Obama-Gruber-Rubin/Goldman Sachs/Hamilton Project connections going back to 2006.....
......Perhaps the most important of these was at the launch of the Hamilton Project back on April 5, 2006. Who attended the launch? Well, Robert Rubin, ex-head of Goldman Sachs was there, of course, because he and Goldman provided the bucks for the Hamilton Project. Its a neo-liberal think tank cleverly hidden like a Trojan Horse within the Brookings Institution, which is generally seen by the press as "liberal".
Who else was there? Yes, RentEconomist Gruber was there; in fact he was a panel presenter. Who else?
None other than a young Senator from Illinois by the name of Barack Obama. RentSenator Obama gave a speech (you can see a video of it here as well as full information on the launch) at the Hamilton Project in which he thanked "my friend, Bob" [Rubin], and launched into a defense of NAFTA and the need for more NAFTAs as well as a need for cuts in entitlements (like social security).

BUMP
Does this sound like Gruber was a bit player?
Gruber and then Senator Obama were also at the launch of the Hamilton Project on April 5, 2006. The Hamilton Project is a think tank within a think tankthe liberal Brookings Institution. Named after Alexander Hamilton, (whose dictum The People is a Great Beast" seems especially appropriate after Gruber dissed the "stupid" American people,) the Project boasts multiple ties to the Obama government. Peter Orszag, Austan Goolsbee, Robert Rubin, Reverend Jim Wallis and Center for American Progress' Robert Gordon all participated at the opening conference. Orszag, who would later become Obama's Budget Director, introduced the Senator as "a son of an economist." Senator Obama gave an eight-minute speech to Wall Street big shots on restoring Americas promise of opportunity, prosperity and growth.(see video)
Gruber went on to participate in future Hamilton Project roundtables with such notables as Ezekial Emanuel, Robert Rubin and Jason Furman, who later served as Obama's chief economic adviser in his presidential campaign. According to the New York Times, Gruber got the official call to help the administration work on the basic principles of Obamacare in 2008. The White House then " lent him to Capitol Hill to help Congressional staff members draft the specifics of the legislation." Gruber frequently spoke with reporters and wrote opinion pieces supporting the Affordable Care Act but did not mention his role in helping to devise it, he regretted not being more upfront, he said. But the thing is, I know more about this law than any other economist. http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2014/11/is_obamas_healthcare_man_jonathan_gruber_just_another_guy_in_the_neighborhood.html ______________________________________________________
No problem - thanks!
Question: Where it says “Choose Forum”, which tab should I hit other than “News/Activism”?
Never mind. The “lightbulb” just went on in my poor brain. I realize now what I was doing. I switched to “Everything.” That should solve the problem.
When Gruber speaks the gaydar meter pegs.
If yours doesn’t....its broke.
Ted Cruz’s wife is Heidi Cruz. There is much on the web about her. She is very notable in her own right and frame of reference and as a Republican. My qualm is that Goldman Sachs has had a nefarious reputation as to the USA money market with ordinary people/investors losing. I go back to the admonishment Ike gave to Nixon i.e. you should be squeaky clean as a hounds tooth to be in high government offices. Not that Ike could or any other top political person can guarantee such. I believe everyone will have their own mindset as to clean government if they know the facts. Obviously for me having someone like Gruber being in your court raises questions as to societal integrity.
I did check it out and discovered that he is married with three children. But as you know, that is not necessarily any guarantee. :)
