LOL...I had the opposite reaction when i actually watched the movie “Downfall”.
Even with the correct translation of the German, all I could hear/read/think was “Hitler finds out”. (Justin Beiber is gay, Globull warming is a hoax, etc)
It was an interesting phenomenon in the middle of a very intense, dark movie!
Bruno Ganz, the actor who played Hitler in “Downfall” is surprised at his sudden popularity on the internet and doesn’t quite understand the whole thing! :-)
I actually saw the movie based on the earliest parody videos (almost 8 years ago now) so it wasn’t too spoiled. I don’t think I would make it through this scene today without laughing.
But those that haven’t seen it should. On its own it is one of the finest WW2 movies ever done. Subtitle reading is required.
Yes, I am sure if I ever saw the real Downfall in a theater, I’d be thrown out for laughing hysterically at the most serious, dramatic moment! It happened to me when I saw Enter the Dragon in a theatre full of martial arts fans. I had already seen Kentucky Fried Movie’s spoof of it and finally I was understanding what they had mocked!
