Other reports say only one gunman. Which is it?
It reporter from City News talking to CNN said that the gunman went through the door that is for parliament staffers and accredited journalist. It has no metal detectors. It is well known as a side entrance. The main entrance has a metal detector and even an x-ray machine for the tourist.
At the side entrance, the gunman shot one of the security guards in the leg, and the other security guard seeing what happened, dove out the door, avoiding being shot.
This reporter heard the gunshots and saw a crowd running towards him. (He does not know if the gunman was in that crowd.) The reporter ran downstairs where he asked the security guards where to go where it was safe. They did not know. So they locked him and other tourists who were awaiting a tour, inside a security room.
He is still there.
He talked to one of the guards, who said the shooter was probably wearing a bulletproof vest. It is a long hallway to get to where the shooter was eventually neutralized by Mr. Vickers, the sergeant at arms, who retrieved a pistol from his office. As the gunman went down that hall towards the library, there was a volley of gunfire, finally killing him.
Condolences to family and friends of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo and Canadians.
