That is what I saw also.
I do not understand why Goodell or the league has to have a “stance” on this, answer questions about this, or, in general, why they are supposed to DO anything.
If a player is indicted, or convicted of a crime, I presume there are contractual matters for the league to deal with. If a player brings his owner or his organization into disrepute, they can deal with it as they see fit.
In this case, the relevant legal authorities did not charge Ray Rice with a crime. His owner and team didn’t want to be associated with him, so they cut him. What the f*** else is there to say?
And the woman in question? She’s not griping, and “you buy the ticket, you take the ride” is a reasonable place for uninvolved third parties to stand.
Exactly.
The NFL was fooled into taking PC stances on all kinds of non-football issues, like the affirming of rap culture. Diversity in cultures is good, right? But when that rap culture tolerates the poor treatment of women, the NFL’s white, bourgeois morality wants to bring down the successful black man.
I think it’s hilarious! I hope Goodell gets the boot and is replaced by Condi Rice, or maybe Susan Rice. Diversity, dontcha know!
What I find most amazing about this whole issue is that it is simply assumed that football league owners and management must have a policy with regard to what their employees do when off the clock, and suspend or fire those who take a swing at their wives.
Why? Does a similar policy apply to politicians, or cops, or accountants, or journalists, or actors?
If not, why not?
Then there’s the whole issue of the person actually affected, who does not want to pursue charges. Yet here a bunch of white women and their male sycophants have decided to ignore the stupid black woman because she’s too dumb to understand her own interests.
All important positions are whites, but grunt mule work is black.
If its not to their liking, maybe they can do something else, eh? I’m sure there would be plenty of candidates to take their place.
Now Sox 10, Rays 2 in the 6th inning.
10-3 in the 9th, so much for my faith :-)
Prior to getting on to the elevator
There are no unimportant positions on a football team. The skill of a quarterback, for example, cannot be demonstrated unless he gets adequate protection from the “unimportant” linemen.
THAT would be a good start!
NEXT would be for those that ARE ‘jack armstrongs’, to start using their voice, their presence, and their money, towards rebuilding a better American image.
“The best way to change the climate is for colleges and the NFL to not draft football players with criminal issues.”
In that one specific way, baseball and hockey probably benefit from not having a super popular farm system. Much easier to weed out jerks before they make it to the big show, not that they still dont get some for sure. Also easier to bench or suspend when you play so many more games.
