I’m afraid I must plagiarize you and coin the phrase, “Low-information Catholic.”

LIE works fine for secular matters, but when the subject is exclusively Catholic (doctrine, liturgy, etc.) we need the term LIC.

I have numerous times, with total honesty and no shame whatsoever, called myself a "Low Info Christian".

At some point, I might reach the point of knowing that others claim for themselves, but not today.

I learn something new almost daily, usually insights as to how what I've read applies to the news of the day, often in ways I hadn't been initially aware of.

As such, I think it will be a long time before I think I know much of anything, and even longer before anyone agrees with me about this status or with my opinions.

Otoh, it sure is fun watching those who do claim to know argue with each other about who is right. So many examples to emulate!

The Gnostic movement got one thing right ... the majority do not have spiritual knowledge. However, this is not because only a few are allow to know it as the Gnostic assert. Rather it is because the majority do not seek the teachings of the scriptures.

I am a life long Southern Baptist Chtistian and when Blackeby’s book, “Experiencing God” came out, it was whole-heartedly embraced by my denomination.

At first, I didn’t know what all the hoopla was about because I had never read the book, but I eventually read a review of the book by Greg Koukl (of Stand to Reason, an apologetics site), which pointed out the ultimate heretical ideas of “hearing messages” directly from God espoused in Blackeby’s writings. I checked out Koukl’s criticisms and discovered that he was absolutely correct.

However, whenever I tried to point out the problems of Blackeby’s views (and other “teachers” with similar themes) with some of my fellow Baptists, I usually got a “deer in the headlight” look and a sort of, well I see what you’re saying, but isn’t that a bit extreme to call it “heresy”? After all, they are not claiming to be writing new Scripture, just that they are having close fellowship and “direction” from God.

It is very upsetting to see the danger, but be looked at as some kind of “nit-picking, legalistic, spiritual kill-joy”.

Please do not think that I am a being mean spirited, but Low Information Catholic (LIC) is exactly the way the Catholic Church wants it congregation. The "dark ages" were so dark because the Catholic Church would not let its people read the Bible or translate the Bible into the native languages.

The fact that the last popes have put their own revelation above God (e.g. Pope Francis new revelation concerning sodomites), and no-one is allowed to speak out against this is a huge sign to, "...come out of her my people and be not a partaker of her plagues..." (Rev. 18:4)

Not trying to be mean spirited, however if you are truly a Christian, you should have great shame in admitting yourself a Low Information Christian (LIC).

God's Word is particularly harsh on those who should know, but do not know; "...my people are destroyed for lack on knowledge..." (Hosea 4:6)

Wait wait wait...so faith alone is not sufficient? We should all have the “right” knowledge then?

Just read John 3:16, and you’ll know the answer.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him, reads the correct Version, is baptized the right way, follows the proper Doctrines, attends The One True Church, and knows the Secret Handshake, should not perish, but have everlasting life.

It's a fair question and I don't consider it mean spirited or you for asking. I guess we should first agree on terms and definitions, so we don't get off to a bad start. What is the definition of "truly a Christian" and then we can go from there.

As to my "Low Info Christian" admission? I can see this is perhaps a judgment laden term for you, and not in a good way.

Sorry to push you into that corner. However, there is no shame in honesty and I believe I am being fair and honest in my personal assessment. Failing to get this one thing right seems to cause a lot of problems for people.

On any subject, especially this one, I always find someone who knows more to guru-level more than I do and sometimes some who know less.

Either way, I rarely give myself credit for knowing much about anything other than a few things about aviation and some important stuff about gun safety and personal hygiene. Not sure why that is.

I don't feel shame for admitting where I am on my path. I feel shame and/or regret for some things along the way, that tripped me up and slowed me down or sent me in wrong directions, and definitely shame and regret for a few of my most stupefyingly dumb-ass mistakes and lifetimes' worth for the damage done, but no shame for where I am now.

We all start somewhere, most middle of the Bell Curvers at the starting line, some way ahead, and some it takes a lifetime just to get to where most start from.

Hey, BFD. It is what it is. We do the best we can with what we have in whatever we encounter along the way back home, right? And everyone has their own journey.

No shame in picking oneself back up if you get knocked down, especially if you realize and admit that it was your fault you got knocked down and it was He who helped lift you back on your feet.

Get that right and it's all good from there.

Sorry for going all wordy on you like that, but I appreciate the Scripture you quoted and thought I might explain.

The problem I’ve run into is from Christians who claim that simply because someone is encouraging people to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, that means that their ministry is from God.

After all, the enemy would not encourage people to accept Christ, would he?

And those same folks do not accept that the enemy can perform miracles, hence when the miraculous is claimed to have happened, (which they always believe are true) it is evidence that God is validating the person’s ministry because they preach accepting Christ and it is endorsed by the miracles and healings that they see happen on TV. Therefore, the ministry is *bearing fruit*.

There’s just no reasoning with those people. They get angry and defensive when you point out the moral failings in the televangelists live or deem them of no consequence.

Right, MetMom.

The Bible tells us that the enemy will indeed perform “miracles” and signs and wonders. The deception is and will be very deep in these last days.

It seems to be an *end justifies the means* kind of thinking.

They consider that the important thing is to get people to pray to accept Christ.

But I can’t see that getting people to accept Christ by praying a prayer under any circumstances is justified.

Certainly not by making promises for prosperity or a trouble free life that neither they nor God can or will deliver on.
