I was thinking she used that word sarcastically — because the fawning media loves to write how Barry is “noshing” on so-and-so.... I had rarely heard the word used before his regime. And, before his incessant shoveling of ice cream and other junk food into his mouth.
“I had rarely heard the word used before his regime. “
I’m 81 and have used the word “noshing” my entire life. It’s Yiddish.
Might be a regional thing. (Eastern MA here)
.
I think the word comes from Yiddish, so it’s something I grew up hearing often in New York, and because of its origins I had never heard of anyone noshing on eminently non-kosher food. I don’t know that there’s much need for the word outside its origins. It’s mostly covered by the word snacking.
