This author’s take strikes me as leaning slightly toward a paranoid interpretation where a small group of puppet masters are manipulating events according to a grand plan.

Nonetheless, I agree with the main theme, if with a different rationale.

The main thrust of Hamas starting the war was to influence Egypt, but it was because the Egyptians had massively shut down smuggling tunnels from Egypt, and Hamas was going bankrupt and was unable to meet payroll. Their existential requirement is to get the blockade lifted.

The real objective of this war was to undermine Egypt. Egypt was supposed to scramble into the new alignment by developing closer ties with Hamas and cutting a deal with the Muslim Brotherhood.

And if Egypt’s government wouldn’t cooperate, the Muslim Brotherhood might be able to tap into enough of the anti-Israel and pro-Hamas sentiment to topple the government a second time. But if Egypt remains opposed to Hamas and Israel pushes forward with a plan to demilitarize Gaza, then the goals of those in the great halls of diplomacy who are behind this war will fail.

I'm hoping for this change.

If you think of Obama as a mole for Iran, then everything falls into place. Weaken the U.S, strengthen the Muslim Brotherhood, and voila, the promised transformation is here.

But for Israel.
