I wonder how many here are old enough to remember when the word to describe male behavior in WASP America was “masculine” and the Latino word “macho” was used to describe the phony, overt, hyper male behavior famous among Latins, and Hispanics, and then feminism started, and male behavior started being mocked as “macho” behavior.

John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart were masculine.

I just finished reading a book about John Wayne. There was a part where he was at a party, called Kirk Douglas over to the side and chewed him out for playing the part of Vincent Van Gogh in a movie, something like:

“Jesus Christ, Kirk...there aren’t that many of us left! You can’t be playing the parts of weak, pansy f*****ts!” (or something close to that)
