Just to remind the usual Scrooges here, we’re talking about packets of mayonnaise and a couple of lousy CB muffins. We are not talking about free meals, free steaks, etc. Or a free bottle of gin.

Cracker Barrel margins (~4.4%) are lower than Walmart margins. Except unlike Walmart, they have fewer units over which they can defray their expenses. Attracting hoboes into an eating establishment does have the unfortunate effect of turning off paying customers.

Just where are all these hoboes that everyone keeps talking about? You know, the ones lining up for the mayonnaise. Most Cracker Barrels as far as I know (and please correct me if I’m wrong) are out on highways, freeways, turnpikes, etc. I can generally see those nauseating billboards driving long distances. This is not generally the area where homeless people congregate.
