How about American Indian?
What about the Anasazi, the Ancient Ones who American Indians knew predated even them? Where does it end/begin?
Washington Land Bridge Crossers?
The United States is the only country in the world that classifies its citizens into hyphenated groups. With that in mind I guess I’m a Brooklyn-American!
My Canadian cousins use the term “Aboriginals”.
...or redneck?
I agree. I’m a “Native American” due to the fact that I was born in Ohio. I also have an ancestor who was Cherokee. Other ancestors of mine came from Europe. More or less, I am now basically considered “Caucasian”, but that is not precisely accurate.
You know what? I don’t really care one way or another. I’m an “American”, plain, pure and simple, regardless of my genetic background.
I tend to basically look upon any other person who was born in this country and insist upon being defined by their genetic lineage prior to their birth in this country as “ASSHOLES”.
But, that’s just me.
There is no such thing as a “native” American. No human is indigenous to this hemisphere. All are immigrants or descendants of immigrants. Stop putting these Indians on a pedestal.
“First Nations” is another Canadian term for people I know who call themselves “Indian” when they are not specifically mentioning their band or tribe.
Dead Honkey
Then call the team the Washington Natives ... let’s see how that goes over with the busybodies and bullies.
Actually in Washington DC, a honkey got 6.8 chances outa 10 of making home from the stadium alive. Be not too bad.
