The win of Sen. W. Thad Cochran over state Sen. Christopher B. McDaniel in the June 24 GOP Mississippi Senate Primary runoff by less than 5,000 votes is a pyrrhic victory for the Republican establishment.

Thank you, Colonel_Flagg
You do realize there were other candidates in the first round. Those candidates lost and their supporters then had to choose to vote for either McDaniel or Cochran this round.
I don’t understand why people are trying to deflect attention to everything except the real problem, democrats in the republican party who called on their fellow bussed in democrats to fraudulently hold power and “disenfranchise” republicans.
It was not bad luck, bad campaigning, flubs, blunders, even rule changes — though the rules in place was the weapon of choice. The real reason McDaniel lost was because the GOPe decided to take off their masks and stop pretending. They showed the world they are really democrats who are fully capable and willing to behave like and rely on democrats to win. They don’t care a bit about republicans and their choices.
I hope you are right about blowback.
And I am also hoping that since this is politics and not physics, the blowback will be more than equal.
I will really like to see McDaniel run as a write-in candidate. At least it would give the TEA party folks something to do on election day, rather than sit home.
Sit at home? If McDaniel does not run as a write in candidate,
I may volunteer to drive Childers buses to get RAT voters to the polls.
Why don't you understand that the "GOP" includes the R voters and the TEAparty?
The RINOs are doing absolutely nothing to slow it down.
After last night, the GOP == the RINO’s.
They proved that when the party machinery itself was used to defeat a primary challenger.
That could mean a lot of things.
I support pipelines, expanded NG utilization, natural gas to liquid technology, coal gasification and all the R&D of cleaner oil extraction. Don't you? and the fact that no social issues are mentioned.
That is unfortunate, but they are not promoted either, as in the RAT and Libertarian platforms.
What does your state platform look like?
No, you control the primary process at the state level. Have you done that yet?
It has been posted elsewhere that the jississippi GOP could have asked for a closed primary and chose not to.
If that’s true, you’ll need to come up with something better.
Mississippi. I hate my phone :)
That's ridiculous. There's nothing "grand" about the freakin RINOs. They don't deserve to carry the banner.
They proved that when the party machinery itself was used to defeat a primary challenger.
The "party machinery" is the enemy, not Republicans. How hard have you fought to change your primary system?
Well, there you have it. Proves my point exactly.
If thats true, youll need to come up with something better.
No I don't. Anyone who lives in MS needs to take over the State Committee and change its attitude.
I may live in a liberal state, but at least we don't have open primaries.
It did the opposite. There was full control over the process and it was wasted with Democrat votes.
The Republican Party, like the other, more powerful half of the Uniparty, exists to perpetuate its own influence. Period.
How do propose that handing these duplicitous bastards power gets them back? They control the levers of power and have made it clear they will destroy anyone who threatens their position. The only thing they understand is loss of that power.
Vote third party or write in McDaniel.
Does MS have a “sore loser” statute? If not, McDaniel needs to run Conservative Party.
There was full control over the process and it was wasted with Democrat votes.
Well, what do you expect? You have an open primary.
Are you a member of the State Committee?
How many State Committee members are there, and how did they vote on the open primary issue?
Victory for Karl Rove and the other shakers and movers that care only about themselves. Defeat for America.
I did read your post and I didn’t believe it. That’s why I responded.
I’m not a state committee member. I’m a conservative who is fed up with being targeted by people who are running the political party with which I used to identify.
What are you?
"Clean"coal and wind power were singled out.
Yes, wind farms.
"That is unfortunate, but they are not promoted either, as in the RAT and Libertarian platforms."
Doesn't really matter, though. They are dismantling the culture, so we must make plain that we intend to save it.
"What does your state platform look like?"
It's sort of generalized, possibly even vague:
We will continue to stand by our common-sense conservative values and principles, fighting for:
◦Lower taxes;
◦less and smaller government;
◦personal responsibility;
◦creating opportunities for anyone;
◦protection of life;
◦empowering families;
◦and defending freedom and liberty.
"Protection of life"...okay. I would be happier to see that expanded and abortion specifically mentioned. "Empowering families"? I don't know what that even means, and I hate that word.
