On Monday, despite House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's (R-VA) shocking primary loss last week that was viewed as a referendum against amnesty legislation, former Mississippi Governor and lobbyist Haley Barbour said the House could still pass amnesty legislation this year.
"I don't think Eric's loss should have anything to do with it," Barbour said at the New York Meeting before pushing for a bill that would give a pathway to citizenship to "everybody's who's here illegally" so long as they confess they are in America illegally, pay fines and back taxes, and are put on probation.
Barbour said the House should pass "a very strong bill" that is to the right of the Senate's comprehensive amnesty bill and emphasized that "we gotta control the border at the end of the day or the American people will have a right to be furious with us."

Thought Haley was a good guy. Silly me. Can someone please kick me in the butt, impossible on my own.
They're going to get their minimum-wage landscape gardeners if they have to destroy western civilization to do it.
Turned into a liberal ass.
Turned into a liberal ass.
“...so long as they confess they are in America illegally, pay fines and back taxes, and are put on probation.”
Yeah, I’ll buy THAT for a dollar.
How stupid do guys Barbour think we are? If amnesty is passed, all the punitive measures will be watered down, dropped or just not enforced (kind of like our immigration laws now). And the border will NOT be secured. It will just further open the floodgates to more illegal aliens.
“....so long as they confess they are in America illegally, pay fines and back taxes, and are put on probation.”
Yea right, give me a break.
NOT that I would ever agree to this but I would also not trust these d-bags as far as I could throw one.
In other words, the House can ignore what the voters want.
Here, here. I could not have said it better myself, then I had to chuckle, when I saw it was you. Good post.
Report: Haley Barbour Lobbied On Behalf Of Mexico For 'Amnesty'
That is such a myth you are buying into. Barbour and Gingrich were never conservative, but they read the the electorate correctly and peddled what they needed to, with every intention of abandoning it as soon as they could. Barbour is not a sell out, he was never a conservative and only believes in the most naked self interest.
thank you, sir :)
“Turned into a liberal ass.”
Power corrupts. Then they want absolute power.
Harbour has chicken producers and rich “windshield farmers” who love that cheap brown labor by illegals. They count on the taxpayers to subsidize that labor force with free health care, food stamps, school for their children, including free school supplies and free breakfasts and lunches. Sweet deal for Haley’s cronies!
Passing a new border invasion law, when current border protection laws are not being enforced, is insanity. And that’s the state of the GOPe. Pathetic.
Same here. He sure had me fooled.
What are you smoking? They didn't lose anything, they won big time. They imposed socialized medicine on the country, it performed as poorly as it could, and now it's done. No one is even trying to repeal it, or change it. Along the way, they used it to turn the Supreme Court into a joke. They may lose a few seats in one election, but they don't care, they'll make it back, and now the U.S. has permanent socialized medicine, and conservative opposition to anything has been made a joke of. I can't imagine a bigger victory they could have.
The weak effort to rally support for in the face of outright rejection by Mississippi voters PROVES that the Repubican Party is corrupt, venal, and mindless.
Yes it is. Just about as bad as the democrats.

Somewhere in Hell, Ted Kennedy is laughing.
I did as well. Sigh...
‘Course I don’t live in Mississippi. But after seeing him during Katrina interviews I was very impressed. I’ve since read things that have made me go hmmmm.
